OUR STORY
MetaGames started long before there was ever a store.
Carlos and Felipe first met in Brazil in 2004 and quickly became friends through a shared love of trading cards, video games, comics, anime, and everything that came with nerd culture. While Carlos spent countless hours playing and collecting Magic: The Gathering, Felipe was completely obsessed with Pokémon. Like many kids at the time, neither of them were exactly professional collectors. Cards ended up in drawers, backpacks, boxes, and anywhere else they could fit. Felipe even kept most of his Pokémon collection in a garbage bag until it was accidentally thrown away before a family move to Brazil, a story that still hurts to this day.
As the years passed, life took us in different directions and we gradually lost touch. Thanks to Facebook, we were able to reconnect years later and pick up right where we left off. Eventually, we both found ourselves living in New York, where countless conversations about cards, collectibles, and the hobbies we loved started turning into something bigger.
In 2017, we launched our first online business, specializing in action figures, Warhammer products, and collectibles. What started as a small side project quickly grew into a successful business and reignited our passion for the hobbies we had loved since childhood. The deeper we got into collecting, trading, and gaming, the more we realized we wanted to build something of our own.
Over the years, we immersed ourselves in the hobby, built relationships within the community, learned the industry from the ground up, and gained a deeper appreciation for what makes collecting and gaming so special. Those experiences laid the foundation for what would eventually become MetaGames.
By 2023, it was time to take the next step.
That year, we opened our first physical location in Rocky Point, New York. Taking that leap was one of the biggest decisions we had ever made, but it allowed us to create something we had always dreamed about: a place where collectors, players, families, and fans could come together and share their passion.
From the very beginning, our goal was never just to sell products. We wanted to build a community.
Since opening our doors, MetaGames has become a gathering place for people who love trading card games, tabletop gaming, collectibles, and pop culture. Every Friday, players come together for casual game nights, friendly competition, trading, and the kind of experiences that make hobbies memorable. Some of our customers have become close friends, and watching new friendships form across our tables has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
What started with two friends and a shared passion has grown into something much larger than we ever imagined. While MetaGames continues to grow, our mission remains the same: to create a welcoming place where everyone can enjoy the hobbies they love, discover new passions, and become part of a community that feels like home.
